Startup Guide is helping to plant a tree with each book sold

22 Apr 2019

As a publishing and media company, we recognize the impact that producing books can have on our environment.

A 2018 report from The World Atlas reveals that 24 trees are needed to manufacture one ton of paper. Not only does this process contribute to deforestation and rising waste levels, it also contaminates our air and water supply.

Each year on April 22, people gather from all over the world to celebrate Earth Day, a global environmental event which began on the streets of Manhattan in 1970. This year, as many as one billion people in 129 countries will be taking part in green-focused activities with the aim of combating the worsening effects of climate change.

As environmental consciousness is growing on a global scale, Earth Day aligns with Startup Guide’s mission to now focus on impact entrepreneurship in ecosystems worldwide.

Having done our research, we know that trees are one of the best natural defences towards climate change. Not only can they extract harmful gases such as CO2 from our atmosphere, they also help to save water and nourish soil for the growth of crops.

Across the planet, trees provide food, shelter and energy sources. They can enable communities to achieve long-term economic and environmental sustainability.

That’s why we’re proud to be partnering with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization committed to helping reverse the effects of deforestation. Every book we've sold since April 1 has helped toward planting a tree in the places they are needed most.

We hope this helps make some sort of a difference, however small it may be, toward shaping a sustainable future.
